What am I doing? Why am I withdrawn?

My Boss showed me an error that might potentially lead to re-doing a part of the experiment session (about 1/4). Of course, I have to admit that it's me who started the bug... but hey! What do you expect to get from a program that's rush over a weekend? Anyway, I'll just wait and see what he want to do next.

In the afternoon, a post-doc of HKU came back and chatted me over ICQ. He came back to HK just for the registry of marriage and go back to US shortly after that, alone. I don't feel like going...

In the evening, I also called my old friend. She said she is not going back to combodia to work (as an oversea staff). This sounds like a good news to me. But it likes me worried since she didn't sound like it's a good news. I didn't asked further as she didn't intend to elarborate further. But nevertheless, just hope that it's fine.

IT people can do/say whatever to their advantage...

Received the follow from the old school's e-mail account:

   :
With immediate effect, you may now save up to 50% of your
printing units if you choose duplex printing (printing on
both sides) on the B/W laser printers:

   - if the number of pages printed is even, the number of
printing units deducted from you print quota will be
0.5 times the number of pages printed.
   - if the number of pages printed is odd, the number of
printing units deducted will be 0.5 times (the number
     of pages printed + 1).

I mean, this policy is fair enough. But I could still remember the reason they gave for not having this discount:
to encourage printing of finalized articles which are more carefully read and verified and to discourage printing of draft copies.

Of course I knew the actual reason behind, although I couldn't do anything and I still can't do anything. But, are we all fooled by the support?

I actually feel really ashamed having worked in similar industry. Just imagine, the students here might potentially work in similar positions after they graduate and they might do the same for those non-IT people that they service... *sigh*...

Another problem I found is the writing is just too `technical' to be understood, oh... if (even( then *** / 2, else (*** + 1)/2. There's always a difference between what is intuition and precise idea. So I actually prefer letting the intuition drives formulae and defintions.

End of Experiment

After 2 failures, I finally finished the sessions, making my boss spend about 20k, which is so much higher than what I get. I thought I can at least have some leisure time for me before the Chinese new year.... but...

Paying money to click...

After 2 sessions of failure last week, I finally made the experiment work (almost!!!). Summarizing the spending of these 3 experiments, a sum of almost one month of my salary has been spent, just used for paying students to come and click on my program. The icronic thing is I used about a month to write that program! It reminds me of Microsoft, only spends a little coding Window, but spends a lot on marketing... etc.

Immediately after the experiment session, I went home and watched 2 auditions of American Idol. No one really can compare to William Hung, I got a bit worried then. When William Hung said "I already gave my best, I have no regrets at all." Simon Cowell's response was, "that's must be the joke of the century."

Damage Control

Haven't trying to do some damage control. Tried to console myself. Tried to continue with my job. Tried to carry on like normal. My job is not as urgent as last week, but I still work from morning until night. Concentration is the key point, esp. for me. I always got remind of this,

``I already gave mt best, I have no regrets at all''

But is this true? Do you feel good even though you have no regret?

Well conversely u can say that because u hv no regrets at all, u dun feel worse off than what u r feeling rite now! this sounds more correct. cos it doesn't mean that u feel good.

remember to gain more good karma, do more good deeds, and pray more often. all of these help.

It's the end...

It began with a fligh to HK. I think it should also end with a flight to HK in a different airline, with a totally new experience. I have thuis idea of changing name is triggered by the last flight what I had. I check my disk quota used in tripod, but it 13mb out of 20mb. I'll think it's almost time to change to a new one. I still want to keep the `readership' =). So any suggestion is most welcome. Should I just keep this current space, but only clean up the old blog entries? Or should I start a new account? What should the hostname be (surrounding the theme ValuAir)? To be continued...

I'm not starting a new thread or topic, because I think bad news doesn't deserve a posting by itself. The score that I wanted to improve STILL REMAIN as my first one, just that it does get worse. I'm convinced that that's my limit. So, what can I say? I'll still use the comment I first gave, ``I already gave my best. I have no regrets at all.'' So, what do I go from here? Carry on with what I was doing. And... how??

Sneak Preview...

Surprised that I can still write this post? This is just to give sneak preview of what happened today. I wanted to write it down in my PDA, but later I decided to write down on paper and pen. Writings on paper can be discovered somewhere in the pacific ocean. Now that I'm safe in Singapore, should plan how should I go from here. Will post what happen later next week. Maybe this blog will be renamed to postValuAir?

30 min before departure

I found out yesterday that my flight duration is 3 hr 55 minute while the normal flight duration is only 3 hr 15-30 minutes. So what happen to the 1/2 r in the air?
I arrived at the airport. I found out that the counter is in Row E. I went to row E and I could only see counters for Thai, DragonAir and Korean airlines. I walk past row F when I walked back to the computer screen and confirmed it is in Row E. Walking through the Row E again, there were 2 or 3 counters of the words "ValuAir (Chinese Names)" in white which is not the company colour... After I check in, I received this boarding pass printed as a "DragonAir boarding pass"; I got a sticker of DragonAir's but only striked off with handwritten words "VA". That's it...
I'll keep my finger crosses.

Got the the mail from HKU account. Guess I'm not destinated to enjoy what HKU has, i.e. drink the starbuck coffee, use the 19' LCD monitor... etc..

Message from Office of Student Affairs

I am pleased to report that Coffee Concepts (Hong Kong) Limited
(Starbucks) has been selected as the new caterer of the Coffee Shop
by the Working Group on Tendering Exercise. The duration of the
contract is three years starting from February 2005.

The Coffee Concepts will take over the Coffee Shop from Oliverˇ¦s
Super Sandwiches in January 2005 and spend several weeks to
renovate the premises prior to operation. It is estimated that the
services of the Coffee Shop will be available shortly after the Chinese
 Lunar New Year; i.e. mid-February.
