Another guy that chases me off...

I don't know how to write this down, so I just list them down in chronological order.

(background) Well, I've been downgraded to programmer/coder webpage administrator/coordinator. For this week, I'm supposed to set up a project webpage.

  • (boring) Before Prof supt last for conference last week, he mailed me, asked me to,
    1. setup project webpage
    2. put in more write-up of project
    3. ask V to design a nice webpage
    4. mail main school website administrator, ask them to put a link to our project....
    5. ...
  • (boring) early this week. I mailed V and told her that we wanted this,... blah blah, blah. Ask her whether I write to the correct guy. She replied said she is only the graphic designer, should mail to F. She was already kind enough to forward that mail to F (the web designer), and CC to Prof Supt. To make sure that F does't ignore the mail. I wrote him another email, although wording are 90% the same.
  • (boring) In the middle of the week, I was doing my own preparation. since someone else asked me dun put in 100% of your time into it. I was so naive to think that F has been working on it.... but...
  • Today morning, I got F's email receipt sent to me (which I always request it, but very few send back). That proved that he wasn't around since the day I first talked to V. In the afternoon. F replied to all (me, V and Prof Supt), told me to ask my prof supt to send an official request to support, with more specific requirements, like web counter, etc....
  • I thought, (damn, V should have told me all these right from the start). but since the time delay is not due to me, I'm fine with it. To me, they are just complicating the hold story. (To me, they just talk the dept layout and put in our webpage material, work done. I already emphasized that I wanted a nice-looking but informative webpage of 3 pages, how difficult can it be where the web programming is handled by me?)
  • To better shield myself, I informed Prof Supt about the situation, with some recommendations of the requirement. That's to make myself not the bottle-neck, or delaying factor (actually there's not much things to do, just the webpage layout, since he wanted a nice looking one)
  • So I told that PhD student what's happening all along, as I didn't involve him right from the start, reason to be clear soon. He was really surprised that I started all that, even told me with his (you can imagine as the normal look of a HKGer) cold eyes and cool laughter, "of course, you should get prof supt's consent to send the mail. You shouldn't have done so much without...etc etc". Of course I knew that. They have every reason to reject my request without prof supt's support or confirmation. I'm just trying my luck. More importantly, to cover my own ass.
  • At night, prof supt finally wrote from denmark. he first replied me, asked me to write down what specification I need (probably he wrote right after reading the first mail from F. Prof supt always has the tendency to do it right after the first moment). 5 miniutes later, he forwarded my mails to F, quoting "...the forwarded email is self-explanatory...". I stop responding to any email, since what I wanted is being heard.
  • I hope I'm doing the right thing in this entire mess. But all I want is, to get things done as soon as possible, without stepping on too many people. That's to say, being too protective or passive is not always good.
Morale of the story: Taking initiative doesn't always bring you positive effect, or thing you wanted. But all things you want to achieve start off with your own initiatives.
