An unexpected discovery

Since I messed up my laptop, I reinstalled winxp but haven't got time to install the linux portion. Today, I install the Mandrake 9.2 (first time that I burn a Mandrake CD on CDR, no more CDRW). Before that I also re-positioned and re-wired the wireless airstation/router and calbe modem, so that I can get to use wireless lan. The Mandrake 9.2 installation is (*expectedly*) easy. I use KDE and I try to install software updates using Automatic Update program. *okay*, it went smoothly too, until now it's running for about a few hours. Then I tried to get my wireless lan to work (previously untested). So I was google-searching for any information..... after searching for 15min and no avail, I decided that I don't have to try. I don't even realised that there have been NO ETHERNET CABLE pluggin! All downloading, browsing the web are via the wireless port. Cool, Mandrake knows everything and *auto-magically* does everything for me, without me knowing.

I'm extremely impressed.

Getting people's buy-in

I finally think of something reasonable and presentable to people. The prof-supt gave me buy-in and I need to continue to fine-tune to it.

Today seems to be the last day I work in the year. Yeah!!!

Bored to Death...

Now I understand how a person can be dead of boredom. A studend just went for some eye treatment and his exam period is granted 45 minutes more, but need to be done in a separate lecture room. It started at 2pm until 5:45pm and I was told to invigilate him, alone. In this 3 hours 45 minutes, I need to face him alone in this lecture room. In the first hour 30 minute, I could still read my book. In the last 2 hours, I couldn't stand it and I need to walk around, behind the student's back. I rather die than to be in the room anymore. Then, at 5:15pm I could finally annouce "You have 30 minutes more..." and finally "You have 5 minutes left, no candicate is allowed to leave......", with a smile.

During a time when I was standing up, I realise it was like a scene in movie "Transparent", that genius was taking exam and a police guard needs to be around standing in front of the lecture.

The death... then rebirth of my laptop

I re-install my laptop (*again*), it seems that it's the destiny for a Windoze machine... I also get this chance to clear up my junks and *useless* software that I installed.

Another (unsuccessful) guide tour session...

Went with PCB to walk around, once immediately they reached. We started at 1pm at their hotal in YMT. Lunched and we went straight to the Peak. I wanted to go to the cable car station, on the way I went to "Hong Kong Park" (accidently) through the "Pacific Place" from MTR. So I managed to finish 3 places in 2 hours. After going to the Peak, we got on a bus and went to Wan Chai, wanted to take a ferry to TST. But we happened to pass by the Wan Chai convention center and the memorial park beside that. We have a quick dinner, then took a ferry across. From TST, we slowly walk along the Nathan Road, passed by the Temple street then "Wemen street". We also go to the imfamous Portland street, it seemed really attracting.... I reached home at 11pm, exhausted.

To summarise, I went to,

  1. Pacific Place
  2. Hong Kong Park
  3. Cable car station
  4. The Peak
  5. Wan Chai Convention and Exhibitions Center
  6. Star Ferry
  7. Temple street
  8. Portland Street
  9. "Women Street"

I'm abandoned again...

My supts went for oversea conference again. Before that I know nothings, except to receive his email just before he flew on Sat. I wanted to quick draft out my wild idea and show it to them. All out of sudden, I become so occupied. Maybe it's not a bad thing for me. Staying in this state for a week is more than long enough,

My Sixth Sense Works Again...

I've been feeling uneasy these few months. I thought of many many reasons why... the only reason is .... xxx... Today I finally confirmed what I always thought or presumed... People will say that it WILL happen, sooner or later, but am I a little bit too slow?

Working under stress...

Stress may be a good adrenaline to people (in particular, me). It's the 2nd day that I sleep only 6 hours; I sleep before 1am and wake up at 7:00am (naturally, no alarm clock). Working in this atomphere makes people have some desire and responsibility to accomplish something everyday. But... how much dosage can I still use this adrenaline? Will over-dosage lead to undedirable effect?

Thursday, the last lesson...

I didn't recall that today is a memorable day in my life, the last tutorial I'd give (as least in HKU). Immediately after the lecture followed by the tutoial, some students even took photos of the classroom. It makes me feel it's the last day I'm here. I feel so excited. By of cos, not. The the end of lecture, one student waved to me and happily annouced that she passed for her last quiz. Her last two quizes did not perform well. It shows what I always believe: ``hard works pay off''.

Just happened that I got to meet and talk to many students that I tutor in this semester and last semester. I told them that today is my last lesson, in HKU. They had the same response: what am I going to do then? I gave them the same answer: I'll be away from HKU. Sometimes, talking to students, things that are not coursework related, feel wonderful. I can share different point-of-views from different people.

Reinventing the wheel...

Today the prof supt asks me to write down something unoriginal and messy, with no value. I crackd my head until 11pm, and I still can't write down anything presentable. *sigh*
