TGIF

I have been coughing the whole. I coughed in the middle of the night (haven't got that for some years). The feeling of wanting to cough, but cannot get into sleep in the middle of the night is terrible. For the first time, I have the urge to go home on a Friday.

P.S. Yet another new feature, it auto-appends my sign off name... I dun have to type in the
any more.

Yesterday I sleep at abput 1:00am. So I was still on my bed in the morning... suddenly my phone rang... no it's not the alarm from the phone... there was a incoming call. I picked up the call... oh... it's my prof supt!!! I tried not to sound sleepy, but I couldn't, see I had a bad sore throat, somemore today it's developed into wet cough, with phlegm. So I got to hurry back to my lag, as early at 8:00am. What a day!!!

Oh... until now I finally found out why computers with read IPs cannot have transparent proxy, but internal network can. How stupid I am.

I know it is am important decision. But I only take one night to decide. Is it too rush?

He's is called a slave, or he wants to be a slave?

I seldom give my opinion, but this round I can't stand it. In the last 2 weeks, one guy always call the lab and ask for "DAA tutor", our lab has 3 tutors for DAA, but everytime my friend knows that the's looking for me. Then today this guy called again (picked up by me), and my friend came to answer. Then after the call, I told my friend, "next time, ask him to address you by the name, it sounds impolite to ALWAYS call by an DAA Tutor". Well, I was just reminding him, so that he COULD do it. But the PhD student, sitting near me, heard and commented, "Do you know that next week is the course and tutors evaluation exercie?...". *Pung* What kinda logic it is! I can't believe that I heard.

I wanted to shout a few F words, but I didn't, there are ladies around and they are particular about all the F and S words.

But I just find it sad... a PhD student is afriad of such things, and afriad to voice out. What for?

It's pushing me to the point that I didn't do anything. The lighting in my lab, especially in my area is already not bright. It was just a nearly workable lighting. Today the lights above me failed. Network problem in my room still does not receive any response. Should I do like the other 4 univerities, boycott classes?

Argh... I discovered the problem last week. But I always forgot to report the problem. Now I got to rush down to the lobby in graduate house to write a complain letter...

In my room since last week, I could not connect to campus network at night but it's okay in the morning. Last week, I started to investigate, and i discover...

 1. Whenever I experienced the problem, my laptop was assigned with a different IP address 192.168.xxx.xxx (normally, the campus assigns the 147.8.xxx.xxx addresses).
 2. When I tried to trace the computer that gives out the IP to my laptop, I found that it is a Windows PC, connected with a shared printer.
 3. this machine has shared folders, like "My Music" and "My Pictures"...
 4. And since it has a shared printer, I printed something, spooled side is 33 mb. 8)
What does it mean? It means that someone is doing someone funny, a fake DHCP server! What should I do when my notebook can't get the network? Complain.....

News on the university funding cuts (10% cut for the year 2004, with 10% already cut in the last 5 years) in HK is getting more and more serious. Different student unions are trying to push and stress the gov.

Already four univerities and an educational institute are to boycott classes in the next 2 weeks. The whole thing is getting more and more news coverage recently. Sad to say, HKU student union are not participating.

BitTorrent is a great tool, provided you are using PC, when people can talk to you. Otherwise, it's just a useless piece of software (unlike WinMX). With BitTorrent, I found find myself enjoying the process of downloaded the files more then enjoying the content of the files that I downloaded.

Transparent revisited

I wanted to re-encode this DVD for a long time. Since I've taken in out from my shelf, I watch it one more time. I know very well about the story. Even I can tell what is next scene is going to be. I still like this movie, after more than a year (nearly 2 years). Maybe, it subconsciously changed the way I behave, and changed my thought about life. The change comes in both directions. I find myself telling more truthful facts to people surrounding me. But as a side effect, people always thinks that I'm not telling the truth, because they think it's just "too good to be true", simply it's not something a normal guy in their society would say. How RIDICULOUS!!! In Chinese, it is called "Gou2 Yan3 Kan4 Ren2 Di1" (dogs do not look up to people) and many many more (can't recall offhand, but this is descriptive enough).

I now slowly understand the the meaning of the conclusion in the show "There's more to the myth about Medusa. When the hero Perseus slays Medusa, Pegasus is born of her blood... In the modern age, as words proliferate, it is difficult to know people's hearts. And many people suffer because of this. Maybe the modern age needs Transparents... If we all accept Tranparents as normal, perhaps we'll have ushered in a new age... As Pegasus born from Medusa blood, spread his wings across endless skies. So I have come to believe".

P.S. For those who are still interested, it appears (again) in schemers.

Well, my dad asked me to do a "spot check" on the renovation. So I went to the flat this evening. It was a long way, but I only stayed for 5 min, took a few pictures. From the flat back to HKU, I need to take MTR and bus. So I transit over at North Point, where I stay and studied (3 years of primary school). The playground is still the same, the roller skating ring, where I first learnt roller-skating (not roller-blading!!!). I did walked around the area, but I can't say anything much, everything is changed. These prompted me that I'm really grown up.

(Oops, forgot to set the camera back to normal mode.)

p.s. This photo is in my camera for awhile, it was taken during the Challanging 12 Hours, so structure in a reservior.

The most interesting link of the month
.

I finally decide to write testimonial on friendster. I've drafted a testimonial for PCB, still polishing the wording. I owe him one, since I reject his testimonial he wrote for me.

Well, I can't believe that I tied myself down (for the next 15 years at least) today with just a signature. Going to the law firm in the same building makes me nervous, brings me back lots of memories. Of course, something that may be totally irrelevant.
