Woh! I just went to library to search for a conferenece paper. Before that I had to go department office to get a photostating card, placeing $50 deposit, for a free 500 pages for photocopying. I knew that I'd use to when I get to library. It was the first time I stepped into the library. Admission is like MRT system where you have to place your student contactless, smart cards on the card reader in order to get into the library. The main library is quite well renovated compared to NUS central library. There was a enquiry section right after the gate, I ask where the conference paper it, the lady search for the conference for me again, to make sure that the library has the conference and the year. After I found that it's located on the first floor, I headed up to the 1st floor. There are 2 different sections on the 1st floor, one "special collection section" even have 2 reception ladies siting in the front. I asked to one of the ladies then to know that the conference that I was looking for is not the "special section". After some searching, I found the conference that I was looking for. all sorted in SSN number, by year and pubblication number. The best thing I found out is, different conferences are bound in difference colours. It makes searching very easy and it look neat on the shelf. I got the paper I wanted and I went to a photostating section; I got another shock. The photostating machine doesn't accept the cards that I drew before. It accepts the Optopus card. S'pore calls it the EZlink card, you can even use it for buying lunch in the canteen, buying can drinks from vending machines. After I got back to the lab, I searched for the conference I again. And that conference that I wanted has an electronic version!. I tried to search for it in the web, but no avail. So I wasted $4 for photocopying and 30 min to search for a paper. But it was a good experience and eye-opening. Mr BLOG
