Got another shock. I was browsing some of the undergraduate courses, there was at a course called 'Applied algorithm'. I was shocked to see that I knew *NONE* of the topics taught in the course. Topics include string matching, KMP algorithm, aproximate algorithm, computational geometry and many others. I didn't even heard of the names. I started to wonder why I didn't know them, even though I studied a 4 year programme in NUS. Is it that NUS hide things too well that we, students in NUS, always thinks they are best? Or is it that mp3, AVI, mpeg, iso... etc are so hard to find in Singapore that we had to spend much more time than the others, while we should be studying?
